Ward 5 Announces Precinct Caucus & Convention Schedule, Openings for Officers
Ward 5 DFL will hold precinct caucuses (small group neighborhood meetings) on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at Como Park Senior High School starting at 7:00pm (registration prior). There are several purposes of this precinct caucus including electing delegates to the Ward 5 DFL convention (April 17), and to begin the process of electing delegates to the City DFL Convention (June 9) when the DFL party will determine their endorsement of candidates for school board. It is also about meeting your neighbors, discussing local issues, and proposing resolutions. Precinct delegates will continue onto the Ward 5 Convention on April 17, where delegates will consider endorsing for Saint Paul City Council.

All residents of Ward 5 who care about their neighborhood and the DFL party are invited to attend the March 6 precinct caucuses. Not sure if you are in Ward 5? For a map of Ward 5, click this link… (http://www.ci.stpaul.mn.us/maps/Ward5) We have 13 precincts in Ward 5.

Ward 5 DFL will hold a Ward Convention on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 also at Como Park Senior High School starting at 7:00pm. At the Ward Convention nominations will be considered for endorsing city council candidates. Also, the Ward 5 Convention will review resolutions put forward from the precincts and determine which of these should be forwarded on to the City Convention. There will also be an election of new Ward 5 officers and a call for volunteers to work on committees for the City DFL Convention. At this ward convention delegates from the precinct level will elect delegates to represent Ward 5 at the Saint Paul DFL City Convention to be held on June 9. It is at the City Convention that the DFL Party determines whom to endorse for School Board.

If you would like to become a delegate and are unable to attend Caucus night on March 6, please send an absentee statement (a note to your fellow precinct attendees asking them to consider you as a delegate or alternate to the Ward 5 Convention) and send it to Brian Strub or have a friend or neighbor bring it on Caucus night.

Additional Information:
What are the Openings for Ward 5 Officers?
At the ward convention, the Ward 5 DFL will be seeking new officers for the positions of Chair, Co-chair, Secretary/Treasurer, and Affirmative Action Officer. These are volunteer positions designed to promote DFL candidates, campaigns, and progressive issues in the Como Park, North End, and East Side neighborhoods of Ward 5. Those interested in serving as ward officers should contact Brian Strub with any questions at 651-487-5913. The only requirements to run for ward officer positions are a desire to improve your neighborhood, organize your neighbors, and promote the progressive DFL agenda, issues, and candidates.

Why So Many Meetings?
Having the Ward 5 Convention on a separate night will give you more time to meet and evaluate the candidates and make it much more likely that all the city-wide candidates will attend our Ward 5 Convention asking for your support in person.
